Turps Studio Programme

*Applications for 2024/25 are now closed*

Turps HQ, Unit 12, Taplow House, Thurlow Street, London, SE17 2UQ

Turps Studio Programme is a unique opportunity for a select group of painters to take up residence in their own dedicated studios within an exciting studio and gallery development in South East London, just 10 minutes from Elephant and Castle

Turps Studio Programme is designed to fulfil a fundamental and broad view of what we believe a solid painting programme requires by creating an environment that parallels the studio practice of an independent artist, within the supportive structure of an intensive mentoring programme.

Participants embark on a year-long programme of intensive mentoring, dynamic group seminars, talks,  and crits with the option to continue for a second year. It allows painters time to take risks, make mistakes and experiment with the emphasis firmly on an artist being supported to find their voice without the external pressures of the art market or current trends.

Participants are expected to work within this professional environment with commitment and a strong work ethic, as well as participating fully in a community-based studio.*

OVERVIEW:

  • Each participant is provided with a studio space within the open plan Turps Studios with 24 hour access seven days a week.

  • One-to-one tutorial sessions with a team of dedicated mentors on approximately fortnightly basis.

  • Regular Dynamic Group Seminars and crits with all course members and the staff team.

  • A diverse series of talks, studio visits and workshops by key practitioners within the field of painting selected from an extensive group of high profile international painters associated with Turps and a wider UK painting community.

  • Strong emphasis on peer-led mentoring

  • Enriching connections with other institutions, programmes and educational organisations though visits and talks.

  • Encouraging a sustainable network of peers beyond the programme.

Fees for 2024/25 are £6,600. Applications for 2024/25 are now closed.

*Covid-19: In response to the current health emergency and potential future restrictions on movement and social distancing we have been working hard with our current participants to adapt all our programmes to continue to deliver meaningful content, mentoring, crits and seminars in a Covid Safe environment. We continue to develop these projects so that should we need to implement in the coming months we have the structures in place to do so.

The Core programme is led and delivered by:
