 TURPS | MANCHESTER

We are excited to announce plans for a new Turps | Manchester Programme for painters launching in January 2026.

Turps | Manchester is a new intense one-year mentoring programme for painters whose studios are based in the Manchester area*

Turps mentors will visit participants in their studio or a local hub for one-to-one tutorials. Participants develop a supportive network of peers across the region through regular programmed group crits and artist talks.

OVERVIEW

  • Starting in January 2026 the programme will run through December 2026

  • One-to-one tutorial sessions with a dedicated mentor at scheduled points throughout the year

  • Group crits held at Oceans Apart in Salford, providing an opportunity to discuss work outside of the studio environment

  • Regular artist talks and afternoon seminars in central Manchester with the Turps | Manchester cohort.

  • Opportunities to initiate peer-led mentoring and network connections

  • Connections with Turps | London

  • Connections with peers via an online digital platform

Fee for 2026: £2,950

Application Deadline. We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis on the following dates: 30th April 2025 / 30th June 2025 / 1st September 2025. At each review date we will be shortlisting applicants for interview in mid September 2025.

* It is key for the 2026 programme that applicants can travel to central Manchester for talks and bring work to Oceans Apart for crits. However, we encourage applications from all of the metropolitan boroughs as we hope to develop the programme responding to interest and demand including working with other studio providers as hubs. There is no cost to apply.

Turps | Manchester Programme is an alternative learning programme, not an accredited educational qualification. It is an opportunity for painters who are experienced in their practice to further their exploration of the media and reenergize that practice through intense work ethic and critical response engagement with peers and practicing artists within a supportive timetabled structure.
